Hollister United had an exciting first game of the season! The team showed much growth over the summer. The first season girls showed good endurance and added to the overall strength of the team.
Chace Miguel and Alexandria Smallwood both excelled in their defensive positions. Alexandria played the position of stopper the entire game. Chace and Alexandria were both instrumental in keeping the ball away from the goal.
Alexandria Reckas played goal keeper for the second half of the game and had a shut out for her half.
Kristen Callanta and Brianna Romero both played hard as forwards getting the ball away from the other team and driving it down the field.
Kylie Garcia drove the ball down the field, and was stopped at goal by opposing players, with quick thinking she passed the ball to Alexandra Osborn, who was able to put the ball in the net resulting in the sole score for Hollister. Alexandra’s second half goal sparked a fire for the team and they turned up the heat on Los Gatos.
The coach of the opposing team complemented the play of the entire team and the pressure they put on his team.
This being the first game of the season; both teams should be proud of a hard fought game. Hollister United will meet Los Gatos again for the closing game of the season.
