Hollister United 1 – Stanford Typhoons 2
The day may have been sunny and hot, but as we the approached Palo Alto for this 2pm game little did we know that a storm was building. During warm-ups the clouds were massing, but not threatening as the coaches went through routine and the girls were feeling loose. By the time the first whistle blew the girls where ready to face the full furry of the Stanford Typhoons. As the game went on United was clearly in control of this blustery storm, but by the second half the storm had massed and occasionally the lighting and the storm surge got to team twice in form of two goals. While one goal was earned by the Typhoons, the second came from an off sides goal that the ref let stand. The girls mount a full hands-on deck drill to fight back this storm. Hannah was able to come back with a strike of her own and put United on the score board. The whole team came to life trying to stem the leaking. United tried and tried again to put another ball in the net, but struggled with the red zone, even as still controlled this typhoon very well. But with all of the outside forces coming at the team coming from a ref there was no hope and he was clearly being influenced by the coach of the opposing team. This was a big disappointment coming from the Palo Alto program. If we had better refereeing United might have had a better fighting chance to turn this game around. As it turns out United took a 2-1 loss to the Typhoon's. United may have limped into port after this game, but their heads where held high as they knew who really won this game. This brings us up to the last game of the season against the Alpine Menlo Grizzlies. This will be a home game at 11:30am Saturday. We will see how well the team does with their bear hunting.
