Hollister United 1 – Almaden Wildcats 1

The sun was almost at high noon for this showdown of Hollister United and the number one Almaden Wildcats.  As a shimmer of light gleamed off the coin that was tossed high into the air as Captain’s Kylie and Jahkya had a sparkle in their eyes with a hint of what was to befall the Wildcats.  With the win of the toss and a short blow of the whistle, these two teams opened up the throttle.  With tuffs of grass being thrown into the air United was in control of the game and kept almost near constant pressure on the Wildcats goal.  While the Wildcats relied on their speed, the young ladies of Hollister relied on their skill with the ball.

The United girls really made adjustments from last weeks OV Twisters game.  Hollister made several shots on goal, but the Wildcats goalie was able to repeal the onslaught of United’s attacks.  Both teams would go into the half scoreless.

The second half of the game started just as veracious as the first with both teams giving very little ground.  By the middle of the second half, the Wildcats started to put more and more pressure towards the United’s goal.  Kylie had an outstanding game at goal keeper thwarting everything that came her way and they threw some pretty nasty punches.  The Wildcats were able to sneak in a sucker punch and snuck in a goal on a ball that was clearly out of bounds that the player and coaches clearly saw, but got by the watchful eye referee.  The United players were expecting a whistle blow, but the coach of the Wildcats had his team bring the ball across the line and into the goal that no one was prepared for. So, yes it was a cheesy goal! If it wasn’t for that goal the Wildcats would never have scored.

This Wildcats score didn’t get the United team down, but had the opposite effect and the United turned the oven up a notch and put the heat on the Wildcats.  With all of the pressure that United was giving the Wildcats, Deanna was able to put her own hard earned goal in to tie the game 1-1.  With timing running out, United put several more hard shots on goal, but the Wildcats were able to manipulate the clock and time ran out.  The game would end 1-1, but United was clearly the emotional winner of this game.  Every player on the team should be proud of this game as it was a true team effort

United is on the road this next Saturday and Sunday, traveling to San Jose for both games to face the CV Explosion on Saturday and the Xtreme for Sundays game.  The Explosion is going to be playing United hard remembering the tie last from season, with neither team willing to settle for another one
