Hollister United 5, Aptos Tidal Waves 1

Hollister United traveled to Aptos to face the Tidal Waves in an early evening game.  Before I get started in on the game I just have to say this game field was stinking hard to find.  @*&# MapQuest!!! I think I got to travel all of the back roads of Aptos barely managing not to get lost.

This was a friendly scrimmage against a team we faced last during the 2004 District II Jamboree.  United ended up tying with a 1-1 score at that game.  This game had a very different outcome against a team which is also going to Division 1 this season.  The game started out fast and furious with Hollister dominating from the start.  Kristen was able to able to find the back of the net with in the first 3 minutes to put United on the score board.  Another 2 minutes later Alex was able to find the goal to put United up 2-0.  Then another quick goal by Kristen took the score to 3-0.  The girls were on fire!!! The passing was just outstanding, the girls were looking for passes and it paid off in a big way.  During the next few minutes of play the Tidal Waves were able to score against United making it 3-1.  United then answered back quickly with a score from Deanna and one more score from Brianna to close out the half.

United came back to the game after the half still breathing that fire, but the coaches had to hold the scoring Dragon back and did not let the girls score again.  There may have not been another United goal, but what I did see amazed me even more.  The play was limited to the Tidal Waves side of the field and I don’t think the opposing team spent 2 minutes on United’s side of the field.  This left Kylie a bit lonely as Goalkeeper, but the control and passing her team members were doing was spectacular which had to make even the loneliest goalkeeper proud.  United could have scored more, but the young ladies were showing great maturity in their game.

Hollister United definitely played to their full potential and did play down during the course of the game.  United Travels to Fremont to play in the Mission Peak Girls Jamboree Saturday and Sunday and will be facing Class 1 teams.  If the girls are still on their game they should be able to hang toe to toe for this challenge.

Congratulations on a game well played!
