Saturday, June 4, 2005 Posted: 14:00PM PDT It was a groggy Sunday morning for our girls as they arrived to the Cheetas field still worn out from the Earthquakes game the night before. Alex and Kylie were selected as team captain for the game. Hollister kept up their losing streak to the Cheetas as their team won the coin toss. As the game began the teams seemed evenly matched. The sounds of “Wake Up” could be heard across the field as the Hollister Coaches knew the girls were playing with little sleep and it showed in their performance. Deanna was showing good turn around playing defensively in the sweeper position. Alex made a shot on goal but it was blocked. The Cheetas soon got the ball to the Hollister side and they made an attempt at goal only to be stopped by Kylie as goalkeeper. Despite the tiredness the girls seemed to be warming up and Hannah then made an attempt to score. Soon after Hannah’s attempt Alex came in and scored. With the first score of the game the Hollister girls were finally awake and ready for action. The girls controlled the ball well, making many shots towards the goal. Madison showing good follow through was able to make a score off a rebound. The team was 2-0 and just gaining steam. Brianna was next to score from an assist from Alex. Hollister was completely shutting down the Cheetas. Alexandra, Megan and Deanna were defensive powerhouses, getting the ball turned around quickly. Fourteen minutes into the game Desiree came in and scored. After Desiree’s score the Cheetas tried to bully the ball downfield. Kylie again stopped the ball from entering the goal, with her second touch of the ball for the game. Injuries seemed to be popping up at this point. Desiree was out with an injury, but she didn’t let that hold he back as she quickly returned to the field. The girls continued their dominance as Hannah Scored the fifth goal for the first half. The Cheetas again attempted to get downfield, but Alexandra turned the ball around. The coaches again were feeling the freedom to mix up the line up. Moving Alexandra to the front she then took advantage of her position and scored the sixth goal of the game. The half-time whistle blew and I think the Cheetas were ready for the break. For the second half Allee was in as goalkeeper. She felt very lonely as the team kept her from seeing action with the ball being held to the Cheetas side. Kylie was given the opportunity to play up front and showed good follow through skills when attacking the goal. Desiree also showed off her follow through skills as the ball bounced off the goal keeper and she rebounded the ball for her second goal of the game. Megan had a beautiful header to help get the ball down field again. Desiree then pulled a hat trick and scored her third goal of the game. Desiree was then put in the goalkeeper position for the rest of the game, where she, like both Alee and Kylie had a shutout. The girls played the rest of the game defensively protecting the goal and their lead. It was hard to believe at the end of the game that these were the same groggy girls from the beginning of the game. Hollister
will be meeting the Watsonville Golden Eagles next Saturday. Let’s hope
these girls can continue to end the season flying high.
