Hollister United 4 – Mt. Hamilton Cheetas 0

It was an overcast morning for the start of the 10:30 game.  But that didn’t dampen the mood of our girls.  Chace and Deanna were team captains for the day.  The Cheetas won the coin toss, so Hollister chose the side of the field.

As the game began Hollister was showing the Cheetas how to play soccer.  Dominance was the key from the first whistle.   The heavens must have felt the shine from the girls because as they played the clouds were quickly burning away.

Only three minutes and 21 seconds into the game Deanna made the first score for the game.  The girls were on fire, outplaying the Cheetas on many fronts.  Defense was like a brick wall, nothing was getting past our girls.  The girl’s heads were really into the game, quite literally as heads were flying all over.  Alex, Desiree, Brianna, Megan, Madison, Chace and others all took headers on the ball during game play.

Ten Minutes and 45 seconds into the game Alex came in like a shark, and filleted the Cheetas with another score.   The Cheetas tried to fight back and attempted to break away, but Chace was being a cheetah running down the breakaways and consistently stopping them.  Alexandra and Megan were also keeping the ball away from the Hollister goal.  The defense played so strong that Allee only touched the ball once as goal keeper for the first half.  After the second score the coaches decided mix up the game and allow the girls to play in positions they were unaccustomed to.  Even with the game mixed up, Hollister continued to dominate.  Fourteen minutes into the first half Brianna came in and made Hollister’s third score for the game.  The girls were burning up the field.  The rest of the first half the game was played defensively, shutting out the Cheetas.

With the start of the second half, the Cheetas were playing more like kittens.  Hollister kept the ball on the Cheetas side of the field.  Any play that was even attempted to move to the Hollister side was quickly moved away by the Hollister defense.  Madison had a terrific game turning the ball around defensively.  She was burning balls with her kicks down field to the point where the Cheetas goalkeeper was retrieving the ball for her powerful kicks.  Morgan, Brianna and Hannah all were putting terrific pressure on the Cheeetas goal.  Hannah made many shots on goal.

Alex was showing her fancy footwork and was faking the Cheetas all over the place.  With a quick fake and the taste of blood, Alex again made a goal 12 minutes 56 seconds into the second half of the game.  Bringing the score 4 to 0.  The girls still kept the pressure on the Cheetas, with many more scoring opportunities.  Kylie was moved from the goal keeping position and Desiree was put in.  The Coaches just kept mixing up the positions.  It was awesome to see the girls all get experience playing positions they normally do not.  Kristen and Kiley, being sidelined due to injuries, still cheered their team on and helped celebrate their victory.

The girls played a wonderful game.  But it isn’t too soon to rest on their laurels, they face the Cheetas again, early Sunday at 9:00 am for Part II.  Will the girls continue to dominate?  Or will the Cheetas try to salvage their reputations on their home field?  To be continued…
