This was the news we were all anticipating and dreading all week, but United were the storm chasers on the hunt of those elusive Twisters for Saturday’s game in Morgan Hill.  While Hollister showed the skill and talent to tame the Twisters, they did not fully defuse them enough to grab the win.

The Captains for the game were Alex and Alexandra.  United loss the coin toss and were able to kick the ball off promptly at 2:45pm.  Hollister was hot Saturday and it showed in their spectacular play, starting strong and playing the whole game that way to the very last whistle blow.  United was definitely in control of this game playing 75% of the game on the opposing side of the field.

Although United was in control, the Twisters were not going to go down that easy and their goal keeper was a big part of that.  The game was scoreless for the first 15 minutes until Kristen worked the ball up the left side of the field and passed it to Alex to put United on the score board first.  The rest of the half there was several more shots made on the Twisters goal, but none found their mark.

Alexandra was having a superb game at defense blasting away any balls that came her way in the back field.  She kicked so far up the field that a few times I thought she was going to score from there.  Kylie G. had a sweet shutout first half as goal keeper.

Within the first four minutes of the second half, the Twisters came out looking for the goal and they were able to quickly find it two times to put them ahead.  United had to then be on the offensive and fighting to get back the lost goal.  After the second goal to put the Twisters ahead, they deployed a tactic were they went into total defensive mode to eat the time off the clock and hold the 2-1 lead over United.

The next ten minutes of the game was a real heart stopper as United tried time and time again to put the ball into the Twisters goal.  Megan was showing some awesome leadership skills on field helping teammates with her knowledge of the game and putting players into their correct positions. With seven minutes left United was finally able to come up with a big goal to tie the game. Alex made a pass that set up the goal shot for Deanna who made a beautiful shot to make the game 2-2.  Hollister continued controlling the ball, making six more attempts at goal, but none would find its way past the Twisters goal keeper.

United is still undefeated so far this season.  But, the Twisters are currently in second place.  This was a pivotal game for United needing a win to put them in second place behind the Explosion.  I’m sure the next meeting of these two teams will send the Twisters running for the storm shelter as United will be the unpredictable and deadly F5.

We are at home for our next game against the North Valley Thunder 1-3-1 this season and will be coming into our house.  The Thunder are coming off a loss to the Golden Eagles and will be coming to Hollister looking for a win, but with the way the girls are playing this will be another exciting game for United.
