Hollister United 2,   Mount Hamilton Dolphins 1

Now that we’ve seen the Dolphins in their native home waters and I’ve done my best Crocodile Hunter imitation. (Or maybe, it was just that new hat of mine making me feel the part?)  Today’s game will go down as United’s first big “W” this season.  While the game started off slowly for United, they would eventually find the intensity dial and turn it up to maximum.

The team Captains for today’s game against the Mount Hamilton Dolphins were Hannah and Chace.  United lost their first coin toss of the season, but that did not matter to the young ladies of Hollister.  The Dolphins, winning the toss, chose the side of the field and then also lined up to kick off the ball.  With a slight prompting by the United coaches to the officials, they reminded them that United lost the coin toss and should be doing the kick-off.  With that correction made, the 11:40am start to this Saturday’s game was underway.

Hollister was a bit sluggish out of the gate; the Dolphins were able to find the goal within the first two minutes of the game.  Hollister slowly turned up the heat and was able to keep the opposing team out of the goal for the rest of the game.  Kristen was putting on the fancy moves again in the center of the field and shielding the ball well.  Midway through the half Alex took a corner kick and Hannah was able to make her first goal of the season off the kick from Alex to tie up the game.

After being reenergized from half-time the girls came out ready for action.  All within the span of 2 minutes Hannah, Kylie G., Madison, and Chace all came up with big headers that just blew me away.  The big “D”, Deanna, was showing us all what that leg of hers can do with some huge kicks down the field.

With only a few minutes left in the game, a goal from Alex sealed the Dolphins fate to the grill.

Desiree, Alexandra, Megan, and Morgan all contributed some outstanding plays to help their team to a 2-1 victory today.  Allee the goal keeper for the second half had a shut out as well.  Kiley F. took a blow to head from a ball, but was still able to support her team in the biggest way with all her encouragement from the bench.

While United celebrates this victory, there is still a lot of season left with practices and games.  Congratulations on your first win of the spring season! For next week’s game, Hollister United will be facing the Orchard Valley Twisters, who we played in the pre-season and lost 3-1, but I am sure these seasoned young ladies can muster another win.  The game will be held at 2:45 at Nordstrom Elementary School in Morgan Hill.
