Hollister United 2,
Watsonville 2 At 10:30am the first whistle blew to kick-off the first game of the Spring Season. With Watsonville only playing eight players we thought we would have this game in the bag as the other team could not substitute. Unfortunately, the game proved to be way more challenging then was expected. The Hollister Captains for the game were Allee and Alex. With the win of the coin toss United choose the side of the field. Right out of the gate United looked fantastic, controlling the game and limiting play to the visitor’s side of the field. Alex scored the first goal not more than two minutes into the game. Then Deanna followed up with another quick goal to make the score 2 to 0. The girls were on fire, but by the 3rd United substitution all of the momentum was lost; we had no strength up front, nor in the back field. This gave the Golden Eagles the break they needed and were able to capitalize on the break down. They then scored a goal about 15 minutes into the game. There was a clear shift of momentum as the Golden Eagles kept the pressure on United all the way up to the half. At the beginning of the second half it was a 50/50 split on who was in control of the ball with a lot of back and forth movement across the field. Midway through the half the Golden Eagles with a well placed shot scored again. This score allowed the game to be tied. With about 5 minutes left into the game the United’s bench became a flurry activity with substitutions. The girls tried their best to pull a win out, but even with Five corner kick attempts, another scored was no where to be found. As the dust settled, Hollister United walked away with a tie of 2-2. There is still a lot of season left to be played and I hope that the right winning combination can be found to make the name Hollister United feared and a force to be reckoned with. Next week we will be on the road to San Jose to face the Mt. Hamilton Cheetas to be played at Chaboya Middle School. |
